Microsoft Upgrades SkyDrive

imageIf you enjoyed having 25GB of space with SkyDrive, you may need to hurry up and upgrade your drive before it costs you. From this point onwards, unless you take their limited time free upgrade to 25GB, you will only get 7GB of free online storage and you will have to pay a monthly fee for upgrades. However, if you look at all he new benefits, trying or sticking with SkyDrive will not disappoint.

To redeem this limited time upgrade offer go to http://skydrive.com and click manage storage and click on the Free upgrade option.

If you clock on Add a computer on a PC running Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 Consumer Preview, or a Mac running OS X Lion, you will be prompted to download the new SkyDrive app.

Microsoft has said it will also have apps for Windows Phone, iPhone and iPad.

Microsoft has also upgraded upload rates. You can now upload files that are 2GB large.

SkyDrive now has the ability to let users stream from their added PCs via SkyDrive. This means that if you are in the living room on your laptop and you want to access files on your PC in your room, you can access them with SkyDrive, and even watch videos in the browser.

This is a video on my desktop, being watched in SkyDrive, without uploading anything – just streaming capabilities that come with the new SkyDrive.

The updates to SkyDrive are extensive if you get the app. With the app, you can access your computer anywhere and also sync specific files via Windows Explorer. If you want to access files on the SkyDrive, all you have to do is go to the SkyDrive folder that will automatically update and sync as you make changes locally and out on the web.

This will easily replace Windows Live Mesh and allow much more to be synced at a time – and at larger quantities. Although, the 25GB offer is limited so you might want to rush before the time runs out. After fiddling with it, I must say, the slow and sometimes annoying SkyDrive is gone and the new one is a breath of fresh air. The changes Microsoft made will leave Google Drive down founded as I can’t see Google Drive doing any of this… although they too can up0load folders all at once.

If you don’t already have SkyDrive but have a Hotmail account, just go to http://skydrive.com and sign in with your email and follow the upgrade instructions that were said earlier in this post.
