Using redsn0w In Windows 8[How To]

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

I've recently noticed that quite a few people have been complaining that Windows 8 and redsn0w just aren't compatible. I don't necessarily know why, but I have the fix.
Step 1:
Right click the redsn0w application and click Properties from the bottom of the menu.

Step 2:
From there, click on the Compatibility tab in the dialog that appears.

Step three:
This

Then click OK

After doing this, the program will remain running in Compatibility Mode until you change it.

Doesn't work the problem isn't that it doesn't run, it's that it doesn't detect that an iDevice is connected.

Well, there's a small fix for this. Turn off your Windows 8 Machine, plug in your iDevice WHILE the machine is off, boot up with the iDevice connected. It should detect it then.

I'm not exactly sure why this works but it has for me, multiple times.

On another note, I would advise you not disconnect your iDevice until you are positive you're finished doing PC-iDevice operations lest you wish to reboot once again.
