How do I make my own shortened links?

Bit.ly is part of the hundreds of different link shortening websites that are out there. It is among the most popular and widely accepted on websites like Facebook and Twitter, and even more commonly used on Social Media apps like Tweetbot. Bit.ly is it's own network and brand in itself; what if you want to make your own brand or even just customize your shortened links? Bit.ly lets you do just that in a few simple steps!

First off, you're going to need to register a domain name. You can do this by going to a domain registrar like GoDaddy or namecheap. These domain registrars have a monthly fee, for a free alternative, you can register at uni.me. It may not me a top level domain like .com or .net, but hey, it's free.

Secondly, you're going to need to make a bitly pro account. These are free so you can just go ahead to http://bitly.com/ and log in using Facebook or Twitter, or making an account tied to neither.

After creating the bitly "pro" account, log in and head over to the settings:

After doing so, scroll down to the "Custom Short Domain" section and click "Add a Custom Short Domain". On this next page, enter the domain you registered earlier with your domain registrar and click "Add". Follow the directions on the next page and you should have successfully created your Custom Short Domain
