Updating Mountain Lion to 10.8.2 on a PC

Saturday, December 1, 2012

The 10.8.2 update to Mountain Lion machines brings Facebook integration, proper synchronization of messages between mobile devices and your hackintosh, FaceTime can receive calls made to your phone, and on a hackintosh basis, a updated graphics and HDA kext meaning graphics and potentially sound may be broken after the update. Those using AMD systems should be advised that the update includes a new 12.2.0 Darwin kernel. Let's get ourselves up to date without the hassle.

Instructions

  1. First off, download the 10.8.2 combo update - it isn't a good idea to update with software update when we know that kexts may break.

  2. Install the 10.8.2 combo update but don't Restart at the end, neglect the window and follow on.
  3. Re-install your graphics kexts as you did when you initially installed Mountain Lion (If you are running an Nvidea Graphics card, the kexts can be found in the download link in this article)
  4. Run Multibeast and apply the patched Apple HDA kexts. Note that those running VoodooHDA shouldn't be affected by this update.
  5. If you are running an AMD system, check if there are any kernel fixes for your patch and apply them.
  6. Finally, go back to the 10.8.2 update and click restart to restart the machine.
