Setting up Mail in Mac OS X

Screen shot 2011-07-30 at 8.44.09 PMIf you are a Windows user, you may have to configure several settings before getting certain email providers – like Bell Sympatico in Canada – to work. The Mail program in Mac OS X is easy to configure and in three simple steps, you will be up and running.

Hotmail

  1. Enter your name, email and password in the form that pops up on first use.

  2. Click Continue and Mail will automatically configure your account.

Gmail

  1. Enter your name, email and password in the form that pops up on first use.

  2. Click Continue and Mail will automatically configure your account.

Yahoo

  1. Enter your name, email and password in the form that pops up on first use.

  2. Click Continue and Mail will automatically configure your account.

Sympatico

  1. Enter your name, email and password in the form that pops up on first use.

  2. Click Continue and Mail will automatically configure your account.

If you already have one of these accounts and want to add another, you can add a another account by going to the File menu and select Add Account.

Once you are done, you can manage all of your accounts in Mail easily and effectively. The icon in the dock will change to indicate if you have mail and how many unread messages you have.
