Windows Explorer and Live Photo Gallery to Support RAW Photo Formatting

Wednesday, July 27, 2011

"We all take a lot of photos. In fact, according to data provided by InfoTrends, more than 73 billion still images were shot in the US alone in 2010" - via Windows Team Blog.

The RAW image format is the image that comes directly from each of the original pixels from the camera's sensors. There are many advantages that this format over JPEG including higher quality, more image information and finer control.

As important as it is to be able to shoot with your camera in the RAW photo format, Windows never really supported the viewing of them before. Microsoft has recently released a camera codec pack that is available here.

This new codec pack allows you not only to view, but to also edit RAW images in Live Photo Gallery. It also enables you to see a photo preview of each RAW image in Windows explorer.
