Google +1 on Your Blogger Blog

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

imageWith Google Plus comes Google +1, Google’s competitor to the Facebook ‘Like’ button. Its special feature is that it helps you gain more views by associating the +1s that your article got with the search engine. this means, the more +1s your site or blog gets, the more likely it will appear in Google and the more likely someone will venture in and discover you.

Adding the button won’t be difficult. Follow this steps and you will be fine. The special thing about this +1 button, unlike all the other ways of installing it, is that if you have the +1 button on the front page of your blog, it will associate +1’s to the blog’s home page and not to the article. This method keeps each article separate and allows you to view the +1s from the home page.

Installing +1 in your Blogger Blog.

Go to the template tab in Blogger in Draft and scroll down to the editor. If you don’t use Blogger in Draft, go to the Design Tab and choose the Edit HTML sub page.

  1. Now you will search for
  2. </head>

    and add

    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js"> {lang: 'en-US'} </script>

    just above it.

  3. Then search for
  4. data:post.body

    and add

    <div> <g:plusone size="standard" expr:href="data:post.url"/> </div>

    just above it if you want the button to appear with the title or just below it if you want the button to appear after the post.

Customizing the +1 Button

Google Offers 4 Sizes for their +1 button. To change the size, replace the standard in the following code with the size from the list below.

<div> <g:plusone size="standard" expr:href="data:post.url"/> </div>

Sizes:

  1. image standard
  2. image small
  3. imagemedium
  4. image tall

Placement:

  1. Everywhere

    No code added.
  2. On posts only

    Add the above code in-between the following code.

    <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;item&quot;'> </b:if>
  3. On Everything but Static Pages

    Add the above code n-between the following code.

    <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType != &quot;static_page&quot;'> </b:if>

If you decide, for example, that your medium +1 button will appear on the post only, your code will look like this.

<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;item&quot;'><div> <g:plusone size="medium" expr:href="data:post.url"/> </div>
</b:if>
